Phone, freezer, washing machine: where the August catalogue cycle actually wins

The August catalogue cycle in Botswana is thin on blockbuster discounts, but it is wide on retailer spread. We matched eight SKUs across the shops in the PriceMate snapshot, and the same product can cost you dramatically more depending on which door you walk through.

The cleanest case is the GOLDAIR FAN HEATER GFH-2000: P249 at House Home and Ok Furniture. Furnmart asks P429 for the same GFH-2000.

That is a P180 markup, 72 percent, for the same box. Winter is the wrong time to be lazy about which store you visit.

A wide spread sits on the Defy DTL160 Top Loader 14KG Manhattan Grey Washing Machine: P4,499.99 at Fours, the cheapest in the 28 July snapshot, then P4,699 at Ok Furniture, P4,999 at House Home, and P7,399 at Furnmart. Ok Furniture's flyer prints its P4,699 as was P4,999 with a declared SAVE P300.

That is a P2,899.01 spread between the cheapest and priciest listing of the same machine, second only to the chest freezer in this set. A 14KG top loader is sized for a household of five or more.

One caveat on the floor: the Fours cycle carrying that P4,499.99 ran to 1 August 2026 and had closed by the time this piece went out, and Fours has no live appliance catalogue in our data, so the comparison you can act on today is Ok Furniture at P4,699 against Furnmart at P7,399.

The Samsung Galaxy A06 Smartphone is P1,345 at Yash Cell, P1,495 at Cell City Bw, P1,540 at Nasheman Mobile, P1,599 at Hifi Corp, P1,699 at House Home, Incredible Connection and Ok Furniture, and P2,599 at Furnmart. Eight listings, and a P1,254 spread on an entry phone.

Cell City Bw's own flyer declares its cut, was P1,755 with SAVE P260, so that price is a promo by the retailer's own account. The iPhone 15 128GB Smartphone is tighter: P12,999 at Incredible Connection, P13,299 at Hifi Corp, P13,999 at Furnmart, and P14,999 at Aptec Computers Cell Phones.

The whole ladder fits in a P2,000 band, and Incredible Connection wins it.

The Defy 30 L Solo Microwave Oven (DM0390) is P1,029.95 at Trade World Gaborone, P1,099 at Hifi Corp, P1,199 at House Home and Ok Furniture, and P1,699 at Furnmart. The DEFY CHEST FREEZER 481LT DMF456 WHITE is P5,799.95 at Trade World Gaborone, P6,499 at Incredible Connection, P6,999 at Hifi Corp, and P9,099 at Furnmart, a P3,299.05 spread on the same 481-litre box and the widest in this set.

The Bennett Read Digital Airfryer 10L starts at P999 at Incredible Connection, then P999.99 at Fours, P1,099 at House Home and Ok Furniture, P1,299.99 at Jumbo, and P1,399.95 at Trade World Gaborone, the top of that ladder. The Hisense 65" 4K UHD Smart TV (65A6Q) is P6,999 at Hifi Corp and Incredible Connection, and P7,999 at Ok Furniture, a flat P1,000 spread on a 65-inch panel.

No single shop wins the cycle. Trade World Gaborone leads on two of the eight SKUs, Incredible Connection leads on two more and ties for the lead on a third, Furnmart is the priciest listing on five, and the middle of every ladder is crowded.

The pattern to act on is simple: price the SKU, not the store.
